A few months ago, I decided to offer something completely new to The Fit Fem. I’ve decided to beta test a new program called the 12 Week Transformation Program where women would challenge themselves to commit to 12 weeks of complete transformation – from 2-3 days a week of committed exercise with their very own in- home personal trainer, a nutrition plan, and Facebook group to keep these women accountable. This wasn’t just a package of personal training. This was about COMMITMENT! This was about true TRANSFORMATION!

My heroine – Taryn Brumfitt! Have you heard of her? Well, if this name is new to you, let me explain why it is a name that will change the way you view yourself. Brumfitt is a woman who refuses to accept the negative responses women say about their bodies. She is on a mission to change how the world sees women, and her main focus is to “convince every woman to love her body as it is, to stop buying into corporate messages about beauty, and to change the vocabulary” when it comes to describing themselves.
TGIF ladies!! It is time to kick off your work shoes and throw on those sneakers. This weekend I present to you the Circuit Workout. It is a fantastic combination of cardio, arms, legs and core – complete total body.
This total body workout is a great way to kick start your energy level for the weekend. No equipment needed, just dedication and the motivation to look healthy this summer. I know, this is the season where BBQs, graduations and backyard get-togethers consume our weekends – but let’s remember to give our body the time it deserves.
About two years ago I did an Assult’em Abs live workout in green stretchy pants. That’s right – GREEN, a color to inspire and motivate those watching from home. It was a great experience and wanted to share it with all of you for this week’s #TBT.
The workout included 5 different exercises with a mixed rep count of 20 or 10 depending on the exercise. The circuit is done a total of FOUR times. It sounds like a lot but only takes 20 minutes and you never have to leave your mat.
“Would that you could live on the fragrance of the earth , and like the air plant be sustained by the light. But since you must kill to eat, and rob the newly born of it’s mothers milk to quench your thirst let it then be an act of worship.”-Kahlil Gibran
We have taken the worship out of our day-to-day experience with food. Food is life, and as a first world nation we somewhat take it for granted that if we are hungry we can always go and get food. It is always accessible to us, always around the corner, and always somewhat fitting to our cravings and desires. Life is always accessible, even as I write this I am sitting next to a bag of freshly cut and purchased lettuce, endives, radishes and beets. Life is abundant in America when it comes to food.
Ever wonder what you should eat in order to prepare your body for working out? Some people prefer to eat after their workout, claiming that eating a meal before an intense workout makes them sick or sluggish. If you work out on an empty stomach you can become dizzy and fatigued early. Your body requires substance to continue and endure. And you don’t want to overload your body with food before beginning your routine but you should give your body fuel in order to push through without stopping.
That’s not to say that you MUST eat before a workout. Every person and every BODY is different. Some people can handle fasted workouts while others can’t. I happen to be one of those people that can fast before an early morning workout then eat as soon as I’m done. It all really depends on what time of day you workout. If you plan on exercising mid- morning or any other time during the day, then you’ll need to know how to properly nourish yourself before it’s go time!
Lately I have been reading a lot about the “Dad bod”. A body type that includes a beer gut, no ab definition and flab in areas that most women would hate to see on themselves. Most of the stories/blogs that I have come across claim that women everywhere are falling in love with this body image, embracing the meatier men and ignoring those who spend time staying fit and lean.
Well, honestly, I think this is ridiculous. Do we really want to embrace a body image just because it makes us feel prettier and more confident? Women should feel secure about themselves without looking for someone “less fit” in order to make themselves feel happier. We are celebrating a body type that requires no work, no sacrifice or self-control. I am not saying that all men need to have washboard abs and ripped muscles, but they should have a desire to stay healthy and active.
