Eat Whatever The Hell You Want On Thanksgiving + Pre-holiday Fit Fem SALE!


Next week. Next week it begins. (dum dum dum) The season of holiday munching, boozing, and caring a lot about what it does to your waistline but not enough that you wait until the new year to work on your “weightloss” resolution.  (or dumb dumb dumb?)

Let me ask you a question. Did your inbox start filling up with emails about the holidays yet? You know the ones that say you can lose weight and burn fat even during the holidays? I certainly. Been getting them for years.

Sure I’ve entertained them; I’ve followed some of the tips. I mean who hasn’t. It’s like a dream come true when someone tells you that you can burn fat with “cheat” foods during the holiday season. Sadly, the top tips were suddenly forgotten as soon as the apple pie on that dinner table.

I’m not going to be one of those people who tell you how to eat healthy at Thanksgiving. Nope, no “Top 10 tips on how to be thinner this Thanksgiving” coming from me. If that is what you are looking for, then this isn’t the right place for you.

Don’t get me wrong. I believe weight loss and weight management are great goals to have. But when it affects your social life and community, I have a big problem! In fact, I think it’s rude when people “diet” and don’t eat the food at their host’s house. (UNLESS - and there is always an exception - you have a chronic medical condition that leaves you with no choice but to forgo the desserts.)  You see, having a social life that gives you excitement, support and love is HEALTH! Yes it is! Health isn’t just about eating right. Health is holistic.

I also think it’s awful to stuff your face and then feel really guilty afterwards. We’ve all been there. You stress that you ate too much then hit the gym the next day for 2 hours –to “burn” what you ate. It is NOT healthy to stress yourself out about “eating bad” during a time when you should be enjoying yourself with the people you love. Can you imagine actually “stuffing your face” and felt so good about it?

Ohhh I hear it. The critic in you that says “Syl that’s the worst advice you can possibly give!!!”

Here is why I think you should eat what you want on thanksgiving. Because you are ALIVE and WELL and have the opportunity to be grateful for all abundance you have in your life; because you are ALIVE and WELL and have the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful time with your family and friends; and most importantly, because you are ALIVE and WELL!

So stop obsessing over that turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pecan pie or whatever your culture’s delicacies are.

If you want tips to curb the cravings and not over indulge, go read Cosmopolitan magazine and get the same advice you have been reading year after year after year. Has it worked yet? Instead, I’ll give you the BEST advice.

Move your body! Go for a walk after dinner with your loved ones. Play a fitness WII game with your family in the living! Have a dance party! Do the Online Gym (a little plug in of course). Just move your body.

I’m going to venture out and say I think exercise is even more important than what you put into your body. 3 Reasons (this is as Cosmopolitan as I’ll ever get on ya)…and no it’s just abut burning those calories.

  1. Reduces triglycerides (high fats in blood) and accelerates how the body uses the fat (burning the fat).
  2. Stimulates various brain chemicals that make you feel super happy – endorphins, dopamine, serotonin. These are the same hormones released during sex, sleep, and chocolate. Pleasure please!
  3. Boosts your energy by delivering oxygen & nutrients to your body’s tissues and helps your body improve all of its functions, including things that require your cardiovascular system. (Want to improve your cardiovascular system, take ChoreoKick classes!)

Of course, there are many more benefits but I just don’t have the time to sit here and write all of them out for you. Take my word for it. Enjoy the holidays (I’m sure I’ll write you another email next week) but I really want to make sure you understand that life is precious. Please don’t waste your energy on feeling guilty about yourself, about your body and about a time when you should be thankful and celebrating all the amazing people and things you have in your life. Instead use your energy to move your body in fun ways, even better, with your family and friends. Use that time to bond together over physical activity. Create those memories and let’s enjoy our week next week! Sound good?
