P!nk - Strong, Beautiful and Freakin Perfect

I’ll never forget the day a previous boss of mine told me …” You’d only be perfect if you lost this.” She grabbed on to what little fat I had around my “love handles”. As you can imagine this put me over the edge. It ruined my self-esteem. I felt belittled. I felt like I wasn’t good enough. I felt like I needed to prove to her that I can be perfect…with just a little more work and lot more pills.

Man, I wish I had Pink to look up to back then.  I’m talking about the singer.

….. Ha, kinda funny eh? I wanted to be “perfect” and that’s one of Pink’s hit songs. Ok I digress……

Pink is pretty bad-ass. She is strong, beautiful and confident. She dazzles us with her lyrical abilities and performs on stage like no other. But what makes her a true role model is her willingness to stand up to those who judge and criticize her body.

Recently, while attending a cancer benefit, a photo was taken of Pink that had outsiders calling her a “fat bitch” and hating on her weight. Of course, those who cannot love themselves need to spread the unhappiness and they found themselves judging Pink. Her response was classic – both elegant and yet straight to the point.

She made a joke stating that the “dress didn’t photograph as well as it did in my kitchen” but happily adds:

“In fact, I feel beautiful. So, my good and concerned peoples, please don’t worry about me. And I’m not worried about you either. I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off”.

I mean – this is an amazing response. She is completely confident with herself and feels no shame in her body. She even started a movement of shorts, posting pics and captions about her family members making comments on her “squishy” body. She loves herself…end of story. No one is going to change her mind. No one is causing to cause her to feel bad about the way she looks. She is truly in love with the body she has created and it is so refreshing.

And there are many other celebrities who face scrutiny every day for looking “fat”. Kelly Clarkson comes to mind.

Anyway, we need to take Pink’s comments and confidence and find that inspiration within. No one should care what others think of them. We need to be comfortable in our own skin. We need to see the beauty in our imperfections and find the motivation to change those aspects we do not like, because we want to feel better, not because of what other’s say. It is fine to want to improve but make sure you are doing it for yourself and not for those around you.

Embrace yourself. Love yourself. Find happiness in your body. Don’t let others be the judge of you…make your opinion the most important.

And exercise because you want to feel good!!!  PERIOD. END. OF. SENTENCE.
