Ayurveda is the ancient Indian healing art that incorporates the heating and cooling qualities of food. Based on what is called your “dosha” or your “constitution” certain foods have a more balancing effect on your body or an unbalancing effect. You can find your dosha here. I personally am a Pitta, so my body is naturally hot and firey, others are Vatta and have a colder physical disposition and others are Kaphas who are more balanced between the two.

My heroine – Taryn Brumfitt! Have you heard of her? Well, if this name is new to you, let me explain why it is a name that will change the way you view yourself. Brumfitt is a woman who refuses to accept the negative responses women say about their bodies. She is on a mission to change how the world sees women, and her main focus is to “convince every woman to love her body as it is, to stop buying into corporate messages about beauty, and to change the vocabulary” when it comes to describing themselves.
Ever wonder what you should eat in order to prepare your body for working out? Some people prefer to eat after their workout, claiming that eating a meal before an intense workout makes them sick or sluggish. If you work out on an empty stomach you can become dizzy and fatigued early. Your body requires substance to continue and endure. And you don’t want to overload your body with food before beginning your routine but you should give your body fuel in order to push through without stopping.
That’s not to say that you MUST eat before a workout. Every person and every BODY is different. Some people can handle fasted workouts while others can’t. I happen to be one of those people that can fast before an early morning workout then eat as soon as I’m done. It all really depends on what time of day you workout. If you plan on exercising mid- morning or any other time during the day, then you’ll need to know how to properly nourish yourself before it’s go time!
Lately I have been reading a lot about the “Dad bod”. A body type that includes a beer gut, no ab definition and flab in areas that most women would hate to see on themselves. Most of the stories/blogs that I have come across claim that women everywhere are falling in love with this body image, embracing the meatier men and ignoring those who spend time staying fit and lean.
Well, honestly, I think this is ridiculous. Do we really want to embrace a body image just because it makes us feel prettier and more confident? Women should feel secure about themselves without looking for someone “less fit” in order to make themselves feel happier. We are celebrating a body type that requires no work, no sacrifice or self-control. I am not saying that all men need to have washboard abs and ripped muscles, but they should have a desire to stay healthy and active.
Ah, the weather has been glorious this week. It is that middle ground before the summer heat hits and the humidity takes over. So in honor of this spring like weather I have created the Spring Fling Workout.
This workout is a total body circuit and includes 5 exercises. You will be focusing on your butt, your core, your back and your shoulders.
Alright ladies, it is time to challenge yourself and go outside your comfort zone. This week’s #TBT brings back Spider Pushups! This is an advanced move that will require you to push and not give up. Even if you can only complete one or two pushups it is a success. Just try your best and remember - you got this.
It’s amazing how many of our clients and people in general ask that very specific question. Despite the insane amounts of information via “La Google”, it is still asked time and time again.
One of our very awesome Fit Fem trainers, Emma, sheds some light on this particular topic. In addition to being a certified personal trainer, she is also a certified Holistic Health Coach Practitioner (like me!). And here’s what’s she got to say…
