I love a good yogurt parfait. It is a great breakfast treat or even a tasty afternoon snack. The combination of smooth yogurt and crunchy granola makes it a nice addition to your breakfast menu. Normally I just throw in Greek yogurt and granola, berries like Goji, or chia seeds with some raw honey to sweeten into a bowl but I have been looking into other recipes – always need to change things up a bit. Some of us get bored ya know!

The Fit Fem Blog
WHOOP WHOOP!Latest from Syl's Blog...
Way back when The Fit Fem used to have “Ask the Fit Fem Tuesday”. This was a weekly Q&A video that would focus on a question from a fellow Fit Fem client or follower. (Quick side note – thinking about bringing this weekly video back – feelings on adding this back into rotation???) Anyway, as I was saying, “Ask the Fit Fem Tuesday” allowed people to ask questions and hear advice on various health topics. The forum was open; any and all questions were welcomed.
Well, for this week’s #TBT, I am revisiting the “Is Starvation Mode Real?” The individual who submitted the question was concerned about the diet she was placed on by her nutritionist. She felt it was too limited, low in calorie count and no variety.
Well, where should I begin with this whole #BeTheGirl weight-loss challenge created by J.Lo. In a single word, it is simply HORRIBLE. My blood BOILED when I watched J-Lo encourage other women and girls to “train” when she trains, “eat” when she eats, etc, etc. Fat burners. Supplements. Competition. These are not the aspects of a healthy diet. What is J.Lo thinking???
These are the types of diets that need to be avoided. J.Lo is role model to many and she is using that power to sway people towards a weight-loss plan that is COMPLETELY unhealthy, dangerous, and completely unnecessary. Why to make a few more bucks? Does she really need to make more money preying on the insecurities of others? Stick to the movies and music Miss J-Lo!
Wanna know what the biggest complaint is about exercising? “I am in too much pain!!!” As a trainer and instructor, I’ve heard it ALL! I’m sympathetic to the complaints. We are women – we get out periods, we get the flu from our kids, we get the stomach bug from someone at work, or we get sore from certain exercises perhaps pulling a muscle.
We reach for the medicine cabinet for those couple 100 mgs of Tylenol but sometimes pain relievers just don’t cut it. Even when you take more than the recommended dosage (we know we have all been there before) the pain continues. It can be frustrating and downright annoying. This constant nag of pain can totally throw off your day and cause you to avoid a workout.
Ever try to lie down on your back, stretch your legs up in the air and find your legs completely bent? No matter how hard you try to straighten them, it’s like chronically bent? Or how about that pain you right in between your shoulder blades? Well then, you probably need some foam rolling in your life.
Do you foam roll? Actually, let me back up one step – have you ever heard of foam rolling? Chances are many of you are not sure what this and that is a complete shame. It is a great tool to help relieve pain and prevent injury. Foam rolling is similar to a deep tissue massage as it eases pain and stretches muscles. It takes pressure off joints, alleviates muscle soreness, and returns muscles that were once contracted to their original length.
Looking for something refreshing to snack on? Search no further ladies; try out these “breadless” cucumber sandwiches.
I know the word “breadless” caught your attention. This statement means limited carb intake and is a winner for those looking to cut back on their carbohydrates. . I know some of us (cough cough – me) are carboholics. Not all carbs are bad; however, it can make us feel sluggish and pack on the pounds if consumed in excess.
Alright ladies – it is Thursday which means another video from years past. This week we are heading back to 2011 – man, I cannot believe this video is already four years old already. While I’m not a fan of the title of this workout (I admit, this was when I wanted to be a celebrity trainer and thought these kinds of titles were catchy…) it is nonetheless an awesome routine for your abdominals. So much has changed in that time but the intensity and success of this workout remains solid.
