Boy did I get a reaction on FB! I’ll show it to you in a hot sec but let me explain the scenario.
After finishing posting a pic of my new favorite green powder, which I add to my green smoothies, I scrolled down my newsfeed and ran into not 1, but 3 statuses about ‘nutritional cleansing’.
OK PET PEEVE!!!! (I will withhold the name of the company) I have huge disdain towards a company that markets and sells fat loss through “nutritional cleansing”. Essentially this company (and many other ones) promotes shakes and pills with eating only one meal a day (usually a salad because you know real food has real calories and we’re not allowed to have calories when we are trying to lose weight… GEEZ) and then encourages customers who have lost weight to become “nutritional cleansing coaches”.
I’m gonna hate on them right now. First, I used this product because of its promise of rapid fat loss. I took it = I got sick = Lupus. Second, the idea of regular people becoming coaches without investing in real education about food and its effects on the body makes my skin boil.

Let me start off by saying how much I really LOVE YOU! And Happy Valentine’s Day!
Monday night was beautiful. It was my first real “speaking engagement” in a room of women entrepreneurs. (Let’s call them Fem’preneurs.)
I was nervous about speaking my truth in public. You see I have no problem writing my feelings and sharing my personal stories but when it comes to speaking, well that’s another animal. Be as it may, I still spoke MY TRUTH! I bared all!
My story? A fat kid, a body obsessed teen & adult, a diet pill addict, a chronic dieter and exerciser, and a woman living with Lupus. I shared my story because I know each and everyone of us have suffered in some way - whether it was body shaming, yo-yo-dieting, or an obsession with the treadmill.

We are a society wanting expedited solutions to everything – we look for things like the fastest service at a restaurant, the fastest way to get a degree, and my favorite, the fastest way to lose weight. We equate quality with getting things done fast.
But is it really true that when things get done fast, they get done right? How did this “getting fast results” thinking all begin? (If anyone knows the answer to this question, please do let me know!)
I feel like we live our whole lives feeling rushed. Like we are always missing out. We are addicted to instant gratification and we are addicted to the attention that comes from getting these fast results. Cmon, you and I both know we like to fish for compliments with our before and after selfies.
I don’t know about you, but this whole thing gets exhausting.
When was the last time you truly took your time, I mean really took your time, to work through something till the very end, and actually got a long lasting desired result?

I’m about to give you some really horrible advice:
I purposely did not post an article during Christmas because well it was Christmas! I took a break from emails, blogging, and social media for a few days. I just wanted to take the time to relax and enjoy it with my family and friends. I hope you did the same.
On to the horrible advice…. Admit it, we all ate like (& drank like) “shizit” these past few days. I definitely did! And I’m admitting it. And I can bet you’ve come across articles from your favorite Self, Shape, Glamour, Women’s Health, telling you how to “avoid the holiday bulge”. Well I think all of that advice is hogwash.

I wanted to keep this light and merry… since I’m I’m feelin’ quite jovial this holiday season.
Everywhere you turn, you’ll see blog posts and magazine articles about surviving the holidays. Because every season, you are out feeling exhausted, and frustrated, and stressed about the holidays…And you say, “Screw it, I’ll just get back on track when the new year starts.”
I guess this is the new norm - binging and letting go of your self-care because Black Friday and holiday parties are more important. I mean who doesn’t want new electronics, a new holiday outfit and a festive cocktail or cocktailssss in hand?
This isn’t intended to make you feel bad. In fact, I want you to enjoy the holiday season – the bright lights, the music, the excitement of getting some new presents. It really is a fun time.
But what happens when you realize you have been so stressed out, you feel heavier and lethargic? And you can’t wait to start anew?

I think it’s time.
I think it’s time we move away from isolation and from feeling that we are doing this alone.
I don’t know about you, but I thrive on community.
I mean isn’t that the basis of all humanity? Take a look at schools, clubs, work groups, Greek Life, mommy groups, churches, temples, governments….they all have one thing in common and that is COMMUNITY.
